Marijuana for Medical Purposes: Who, What, Where, When and How?

“Marijuana for Medical Purposes – Who, What, Where, When and How” is a workshop that addresses the need for access by health care professionals to unbiased, scientific evidence for the use of medical marijuana. This presentation is appropriate for physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other health care professionals with patients asking questions about medical marijuana.

By the end of the workshop, learners will be able to:

  • Summarize the current state of evidence regarding marijuana for medical purposes, along with its adverse effects
  • Provide patients with evidence-informed guidance regarding marijuana use
  • Describe the proposed regulatory framework for marijuana legalization and how this may impact marijuana use for medical purposes

This presentation will be followed by a Q&A session with Dr. Maria Zhang.

  • Maria Zhang is a Clinician Educator jointly at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto (U of T). Her clinical role at CAMH is an Advanced Practice Pharmacist. Maria completed her graduate work at CAMH under the supervision of Dr. Beth Sproule, and through the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Collaborative Program in Addiction Studies at U of T. While completing her MSc, Maria’s clinical training and work was based at the Addiction Medicine Service, CAMH. The focus of her research and her teaching is addictions, with a focus on prescription drug abuse.
