The City of Ottawa has implemented Child Care Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Guidelines in their municipal child care sites. This 4th webinar of the Policy Development series provides a snapshot of the experience of develping and implementating a policy from start to finish. Following a brief summary of the strategy and the results of the evaluation, presenters will provide stories from the field about the impacts of the project on the healthy eating and active living environments in child care centres.

Helen Parker, Public Health nurse, has been with Ottawa Public Health for 14 years. Helen has worked extensively in health promotion and outreach to families with young children, providing support and education in the home and community setting.

Ellen Lakusiak, registered dietitian, has been with Ottawa Public Health for 7 years. During these years, and throughout her career, Ellen has specialized in early years’ nutrition. She published a book entitled Eating Well When You’re Pregnant in 1996.

Ginette Perron has been a registered early childhood educator (RECE) for 29 years. Ginette has worked in the child care community as a child care director for more than 20 years. She has worked at the City of Ottawa as a child care specialist and program manager for the 12 municipal centres for the past 5 years
